What goes into a backyard putting green
Base built like hardscape
A green is only as true as what is under it. The base gets excavated, graded, and compacted the same way we would prep a patio, because that is what the roll depends on.
Contours and break designed in
A flat green gets boring in a week. Slope and break get shaped into the base so the green is worth practicing on rather than just worth looking at.
Premium synthetic turf
The surface is chosen for a true roll and a real looking finish, not the shiny plastic green that gives away a cheap install from across the yard.
Cups, fringe, and edges
Cup placement, the fringe around the green, and how the edge meets the rest of the landscape are what make it read as part of the yard instead of a mat dropped on the lawn.
Drainage underneath
Rain and snowmelt have to go somewhere. The base is built to drain so the green is playable again quickly rather than holding water.
Zero irrigation, year round
No water, no mowing, no fertilizer, and it stays tournament-ready 365 days a year. In a place where water is metered and allotted, a surface that draws nothing is a permanent zero on that side of the bill.
Why synthetic makes sense in Utah
Real bentgrass is the surface on actual putting greens and it is close to impossible to keep alive in a Weber County backyard. It wants daily attention, a reel mower rather than a rotary one, and a great deal of water in a place where water is metered and allotted. Synthetic removes the entire argument. It also means the green is usable in March and in November, when a natural green would be dormant or under snow. If you are weighing a green against more lawn, the water math is worth running: the green is a permanent zero on your irrigation bill, and the lawn it replaces is not.

Common questions
Does it actually roll true?
That is the whole test, and it depends far more on the base than on the turf. A properly excavated and compacted base with intentional contours gives you a real roll. A green laid over a rough surface never will, whatever turf is on top.
What does a putting green cost?
It scales with square footage, how much excavation the site needs, and how much contour you want built in. We do not publish per-service pricing. Our projects start at $10,000, and a green is quoted from the plan, for free.
