What the design process looks like
Drone mapping of your property
We fly the lot and capture aerial imagery before drawing anything. That gives us real measurements and real contours to design against instead of a rough sketch.
Site analysis first
Soil, drainage, sunlight, and the structures already on the lot all get assessed, with measurements and photos. The design answers those conditions rather than fighting them.
A 2D concept plan
The first plan lays out beds, hardscape, turf, and how you move through the space, drawn to scale for your specific site.
3D renderings and fly-through tours
For projects that need it, we build the yard in 3D so you can walk through it before construction starts. Moving a tree in software costs a lot less than moving it in the ground.
Plant selection for your conditions
Plant choices follow your elevation, sun exposure, soil, and water goals. Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue hold up well for turf here, and drought-tolerant perennials like Russian Sage and Black-eyed Susan do the work with less water once established.
An estimate tied to the drawing
If you already have a plan, we review it with you and quote from it. If you need one, the design comes first and the estimate follows, so the number is attached to something real.
Designing for Weber County conditions
Design decisions here get made under a water budget. Secondary water allotments, park strip rules, and rebate programs all shape what makes sense on a given lot, and it is far easier to account for them on paper than to rebuild a yard around them two years later. Elevation matters too. A lot in Roy and a lot up in Eden or Liberty are not the same growing conditions, and the planting plan should say so. Common questions
Do you charge for the design?
Yes. The consultation and site analysis are free, and the design itself is a separate service that we quote up front. Most projects get a 2D plan: drawn to scale by a landscape architect from drone imagery of your property, with a plant schedule and every piece of hardscape on it. A 3D rendering is an optional add-on that a small share of clients take, usually because they want to see the space before it is built rather than because the project is large.
What if I already have a plan from another designer?
That works. We review it with you and build a detailed estimate from it. For larger projects we require a plan before work begins, and one you bring us counts.
How long does the design take?
Mostly it depends on how quickly you come back to us. When a client turns comments around in a couple of days, a plan moves quickly. When feedback sits, the same plan can stretch out for months.
When should I start if I want the yard finished this year?
Start earlier than feels necessary. Spring install slots get booked over the winter and fall slots fill through the summer, and the design work, revisions, and material lead times all happen before install day. A season ahead is the safe answer, which makes winter the right time to plan a spring build. December through February is our off season, so a design started then gets our full attention instead of competing with the spring rush.
