What grading and earthwork covers
Major earthmoving
We have the equipment and the operators to move real volume, whether that is cutting into a slope, filling a low spot, or reshaping a lot that was left rough by the builder.
Drainage away from structures
Water gets directed away from the house, the garage, and any outbuildings. This is the part of the job that protects the building, and it is not optional.
Soil stabilization
Loose or unstable soil gets addressed before anything is built on it. Everything above ground depends on what is underneath holding still.
Fine grading and contour work
Once the heavy work is done, the surface gets fine-tuned to the contours the design calls for. This is what makes lawn look intentional instead of lumpy.
Erosion control
Bare graded soil on a slope goes somewhere the first time it rains hard. We plan for that rather than discovering it.
A finished canvas for the build
Grading is the phase nobody sees in the after photos and the phase that decides whether the rest of the project works. It gets done first and it gets done properly.
Grading on Weber County lots
A lot of the lots we work on came from the builder graded to shed water off the pad and nothing more. That is enough to pass an inspection and not enough to give you a usable yard. Add the natural grade along the Ogden bench and up into the valley, and a surprising number of properties here need real earthwork before anything else can happen. It is also the phase where drainage mistakes get locked in. Water that is pointed at a foundation, a window well, or a neighbor's fence line is far cheaper to fix while the machines are already on site than after the sod and patio are in.

Common questions
Do you haul soil in or off site?
We bring in premium screened topsoil on most jobs, for the plant beds and under the sod, so things establish well over the first few years. What else a particular site needs moved is worked out on the site visit.
Will your equipment fit through my side yard?
Access is one of the first things we check on the site visit, and it genuinely affects both the approach and the cost.
Do I need a permit for grading?
Grading on its own does not require a permit. Retaining walls are the exception, and what they need depends on your city. We help homeowners find out what applies before the design is finalized.
When can grading be done?
Close to year-round. Dirt work and grading run whenever the ground is workable, including through much of the winter, which is why grading often goes in ahead of a spring planting window rather than competing with it. Even after a freeze, if it is cold and dry we can still move dirt and build walls, which is not true of sprinklers or sod.
