A complete look at the Coldwater Canyon landscape project, from the finished outdoor spaces to the details that bring the design together.

This one is a slope project first and everything else second. The lot steps down hard from the neighboring properties, and the build works that grade into three usable levels. Boulder walls hold each terrace, with stone slabs forming stairs where you move between them.

Above the walls there is level lawn on two tiers, a Dominator hoop set into its own pad. Below, a gas fire pit with a stone surround anchors the patio, filled with black river rock and dropped into a seating area that looks out over the whole yard toward the Wasatch front.

The planting is what keeps it from reading as pure hardscape. Ornamental grasses, low perennials, and young trees run along the base of each wall in dark rock mulch, so the stone has something soft against it and the terraces read as garden rather than engineering.
