Oaklawn Gardens is the most planting-driven project in the portfolio. The beds run deep along the walks in bark mulch, layered with young trees still on their stakes, evergreens, buddleia, and low perennials that will close the gaps as they fill in. It is built to be read up close rather than from the street.
The feature that makes it unusual is the steel. A group of weathering steel columns stands in one of the shaded beds, cut at an angle across the top, set among boulders and a young blue spruce.
Landscape lighting runs through the same beds on low path fixtures, so the planting and the steel both keep working after dark. There is stonework through the beds and a water feature in the gallery as well.
